About
My name is Lawrence James (Larry to everyone except my mother, and Lorenzo when my wife and I are at our casa in Mexico). I’ve always been intrigued by how things work and as a teenager, working on my car was almost as fun as driving it.
I like to joke that if I’d been allowed to become a mechanic, I’d be running GM by now. But my mother wanted me to be a doctor. I flunked Latin twice …
I made a living for years with cameras and book publishing, with an on-again, off-again relationship with the craft of photography, depending on my other obligations at any time. I was a photojournalist, but these days I’m more interested in the fine art aspect of studio and landscape photography.
My wife and I also love to travel. We prefer to drive, but when we fly, we have fun renting different kinds of cars to take us to places where the rewarding images will be found.
I create this blog to share my adventures, knowledge, photos, thoughts and ideas on cars, cameras, travel and other fun, grownup things. And hopefully initiate a dialogue with those of you who are interested in any of the same.
As for now, in addition to improving my fine art photography skills, my goal is to sell my sailboat and maybe even my 1997 Mustang (gulp), replacing them with a daily-driver hotrod that I can enjoy all the time.
Like my father-in-law says, how big can a kid get?
